Taking a personal creed workshop at his church inspired Eric to write his own creed. Read his result to see if these are words you can measure yourself against, too.

A 6:8 Yardstick: Words to Measure Myself by
Eric's Creed

I believe everything important about God will be revealed to me when my time comes. I believe this knowledge will overshadow everything I hold dear today.

In the meantime, instead of seeking answers to things I can't understand, I will live by a yardstick that I do: Micah 6:8--the purest essence of everything I believe God, in whatever form he takes, values for me in my present.

Act Justly, Love Mercy . . . Walk Humbly.

I believe that truth is more important than facts and that nobody owns the truth. I believe that Grace can be found in many ways and many places. More people should be included than dismissed and they belong in front of me instead of behind me.

Act Confidently, Love Justice . . . Walk Resolutely.

I believe that journeys are more important than destinations and the road of individual growth never ends. Mistakes are for learning, not for repeating. Personal responsibility should not be forgotten; solutions should outnumber complaints. I believe that helping others is the best--and perhaps only--way to help yourself.

Act Honestly, Love Integrity . . . Walk Often.

If I can keep my arteries as open as my mind; if I never fail to make my wife feel loved; if I forever appreciate optimism; if I always own at least four cats and two Jeeps; and if they say of me, in the end, that my life was based on a true story . . . then I will have had a small 6:8 measure of success.

Live Simply, Have Fun . . . Be Authentic.
