There Will be Blood

2007

Plot: A greedy Texas oilman gets rich and builds a bowling alley.

Eric: Angry, screeching soundtrack; angry, screeching characters. Not enjoyable.

1 paw rating.

Kelly: Ugly movie that uses a repulsive storyline to bring out the revolting side of human nature—accompanied by a super-annoying soundtrack. Not my idea of a good time.

Into the Wild

2007

Plot: Disillusioned college grad hitchhikes to the Alaskan wilderness to live in a bus.

Eric: The thought of living alone in the Alaskan wilderness sounded idyllic at first. I don't understand the "lose yourself to find yourself" mentality, though. The dude didn’t plan anything well at all. The search and rescue alarms went off inside my head all over the place . . . or, was it my pager? Where is my pager?

1 paw rating.

Kelly: I found myself getting really frustrated with the way this kid played with his own life, and then I was really sad when he had to pay for it in the end.

1 paw rating.

No Country for Old Men

2007

Plot: Movie about a cattle-gun murderer wins Academy Award for best picture. Obviously.

Eric: I'm giving this movie five paws because I know Kelly hates it.

5 paw rating.

Kelly: Why are these hideous movies about reckless, horrible people so popular? The good guys seemed pitiful, and the bad guy had no mercy and evidently no reason to be even slightly fearful about retribution. I give it a big NO.
